1 Why Start Juicing?

After starting juicing I started to loose some serious weight, I also had better focus and more zest for life. Friends, family and workmates started inquiring about how I was achieving such quick results and seemingly enjoying it at the same time.

It is because of this I decided to create a community where you can connect with others with a similar mindset whether its during a juice fast or in everyday healthy eating.

 Why Start?

Jason Vale openly talks about his evangelical like passion for juicing and if you watch some of his documentaries you will see why.

My epiphany occurred when I was bored one night and scrolling through Netflix documentaries and came across Joe Crosss Fat Sick and Nearly Dead. It was an eye  opener and being impulsive I immediately bought a juicer.

I can only give my personal evidence of why you should start juicing as far as the health benefits. But there is a growing worldwide juice enthusiasm with plenty of first hand testimonials and with it mountains of other evidence from scientific research studies, documentaries.

For me I lost 14kg or 30 pounds over a 6 week period that had 15 days of juicing 3 weeks of 2-90-20 and another 7 days juicing. I have completely stopped taking any asthma medication and allergy pills. I have also not had a headache since the day I started my juice fast. I have a new found energy in my normal life and have seen those around me adopt juicing into there own lives with great health benefits.

I also had the energy to build this site because of my passion for juicing!

2 How to start

To begin your juicing journey, you’ll need a juicer, one that will process both fruits, vegetables and greens without missing a beat. You cant go wrong by Investing in a good-quality juicer but there are plenty of cheaper options for beginners.

Types of Juicers

Centrifugal juicers

Centrifugal means moving or directed away from a center or axis.

A centrifugal juicer is the most common type of juicer you see in stores and on TV. A centrifugal juicer spins at high speeds and during the spinning motion, the vegetables that you have shoved down the chute are ground to a pulp. The spinning motion then forces the juice away from the pulp. The juice then pours into a bowl.

Your teeth are an excellent example of mastication in action. Your teeth chew and grind food. After you swallow, the food then goes to your digestive system which, through the process of digestion, begins to extract the juice from the food you eat.

Much in the same way, a masticating juicer grinds vegetables and literally squishes out the juice. Since a masticating juicer works at low speeds and with no spinning action, it tends to juice many vegetables more efficiently.

Which one to buy?

Cheaper, centrifugal juicers introduce heat and oxygen and destroy some nutrients in your fruits and vegetables. You should look to buy something that does the job well and will last a few years without breaking the bank.

My recommendation would be to select The Breville Juice Fountain Plus as an around quality, fast and efficient juicer that can shred whole kale, carrots, or apples in a fraction of a second and get about 80% of the nutrients in your glass. It costs around $220 bucks.

The alternative and what I currently own is a budget masticating juicer. Mine is a Kogan for $75 buck delivered and has done well to give me all the juice I need. There is more prep work required and it takes longer to juice. I will most likely get a juice fountain plus next!

You will need a large chopping board, small serrated knife and a large chef knife. The serrated knife is very good for cutting the peels off citrus fruits.

Juicing Tip 1. If you are using a masticating juicer you must cut your fibrous vegetables and stems into small chunks or deal with the pain of unclogging your juicer constantly. 

Juicing Tip 2. Wash your juicer right after using to prevent the formation of bad bacteria, mildew and other gross stuff. Give the washable parts a good soak when they start to get discoloured over time. 

Juicing Tip 3. Keep your juicer on your counter cleaned and ready to go, this will increase your usage. out of sight out of mind is very real.

Juicing Tip 4. Sort out your produce so it is stored accessible and ready to wash. For example cut the very bottom of a large celery head and then cut the stalks in half again so they will sit neatly into a produce tray. Ready to grab, wash and juice quickly. 

3 Organic vs non-organic produce

Now weve got the juicer part out of the way what are we juicing? When selecting produce it is always good to get organic over conventional. However there are 12 items that should be organic, these are known as the dirty dozen. They are known as this because of the higher amounts of pesticides and other chemical they contain. It is better to juice with conventional than not to juice at all. If you are doing a juice fast and drinking large amounts of juice daily then at least go for the dirty dozen and give yourself some peace of mind.

Washing Your Produce

It is always a good to get all of your ingredients together and put them in a sing or tub filled with water. Use a plastic scourer that is reserved for scrubbing vegetables and run it over the skinned vegetables like apples and cucumbers. You can also use a veggie wash or make your own with one part vinegar to three parts distilled water.

Storing Your Produce

Start to prep your produce when you get home. Break down larger vegetables like celery heads into manageable pieces that fit into your fridges produce box. Use your space wisely and reserve fridge space for vegetables that need cooling, apples, oranges and beetroots for example can be stored near onions and potatoes in a dry rack. Get the produce easy to handle and ready to wash.

Juicing Tips 1. If money is an issue, seek out a local farmers market and or join a co-op. Produce is very fresh from the farmers, they are generally picked hours before hand. I often time find great bargains at the farmers market. A special tip, farms cut the price even lower when closing time approaches.

Juicing Tips 2. Buying produce in season is much affordable than out of season produce.

Juicing Tips 3. When selecting fresh produce, pick firm fruits, because soft fruits won’t juice well. Pick vibrant and crisp greens, avoid the wilted and yellowing ones.

Juicing Tips 4. Grow you own vegetables and fruits. If you’ll be juicing often, creating a small garden filled with greens and your favorite veggies to juice will save you tons of money in the long run. 

The Simple Green Smothie Recipe

I can’t emphasise enough how good this smoothie tastes and how good it is for you. This smoothie contains as many greens as a regular green juice but the goodness of blueberries, banana and oats. I recently added smoothies to my diet and this has become my champion. Make sure you have best blender to make this recipe.

  1. 1/2 Large Bunch Kale
  2. 4 Sticks Celery
  3. 1 Inch Ginger
  4. 1/2 Inch Turmeric
  5. 1/4 Cup oats
  6. 1 Large Banana
  7. 1 Teaspoon Honey
  8. 1 Cup Soy Milk
  9. 1/2 Cup Frozen Blueberries


  1. Juice the greens separately in conventional juicer and pass through a fine strainer. Add green juice and other ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Pass all through fine strainer again to remove blueberry, ginger and turmeric plulp and Serve.
